When it comes to hauling around my firearms, and related gear, protection, and spacious cargo capacity are two things I not only appreciate but demand.
For the longest time I stuck with a simple rifle sleeve, but like most firearm owners out there, your collection grows and grows.
Within time, I found myself heading to the range with more and more toys than a simple rifle sleeve could handle.
More than often, two rifles alongside two handguns makes for a great day at the range. I’m sure some of your prefer less and other prefer more, but for me, it gives me plenty of options to practice with at the range.
When I heard about the 5.11 Tactical VTAC MK II 36” Inch Double Rifle Case, I knew this was one piece of gear I couldn’t pass up. While it is a rifle case at the end of the day, what it does in comparison to many others out there is truly impressive.

5.11 Tactical VTAC MK II 36 Inch Double Rifle Case Review
For the primary task of keeping my AR10 and HK SP5K protected while being hauled to the range, this 5.11 Tactical case gets the job done. But unlike other cases, it does it in a unique manner.
For starters, there’s protective muzzle and stock pockets alongside a generously padded divider. The internal corded tie down system works like magic, and after using it to secure my firearms to the case, I can’t go back to Velcro again. It just works so exceptionally well with a wonderfully precise fitment.
Concerning sizing, my 16.5” AR10 with Vortex scope fit just fine vertically and managed to squeeze in vertically with no problems. While I can’t fit it in with a Wilson Combat suppressor, the additional pockets give me plenty of room elsewhere to store it. For my HK SP5K, I managed to fit that inside the case, still suppressed, with the stock folded out, and had extra room to spare.
Aside from the 36” inch double rifle storage compartments, the 5.11 Tactical VTAC MK II also features a large front pocket. Unlike other rifle cases I’ve tried in the past, this one fits my gigantic AccuTec bi-pod.
Beside the main pocket, you’ll also find two additional pockets on the right and left. These are perfect for storing anything from ear protection to shooting glasses, ammo, grease/lube, tools, and much more. While they look small at first glance, they can surprisingly hold a lot of gear.
If that isn’t enough room for you, the laser-cut web and loop platforms to hang whatever pouches you want should be. Regardless of what you carry to and from the range, one thing I’m sure you’ll like as much as I do are the compression straps. For cinching down all your gear to lower the profile of your rifle case, they work great.
On the rear of the 5.11 Tactical VTAC MK II double rifle case, you’ll also find an excellent 5.11 Yoke Backpack system. It’s comfortable to wear, offers plenty of adjustment, and features padding that’s plenty breathable. For days when my arm doesn’t want to carry such a heavy load of gear, putting all the weight on my back makes life easier. Of course, should you wish to remove the backpack characteristic, all it takes it unhooking two rapid clips alongside two simple straps.
Other great features you’ll find are the ID window, reinforced zippers, WriteBar, and Velcro 5.11 Tactical logo patch area on the rear.
Regarding durability, the 5.11 Tactical VTAC MK II rifle case comes with 1050 nylon on the interior and 500D ripstop on the interior. It’s field tested by Viking Tactics alongside myself, and I have to say this is one rock-solid rifle case. The build quality is beautifully rugged, and I expect this tank of a case to last for years both indoors and outdoors.
