The Most Powerful Morgan Ever Built Merges the Past With the Present
British automobile manufacturer Morgan has released the first images of its much-hyped Plus 8 GTR. Touted as the most powerful Morgan ever produced, the blue beast pays homage to Morgan’s Plus 8 race car “Big Blue,” which competed in the GT Series over two decades ago.
Looking like something out of a 1920s gangster film, the Plus 8 GTR is certainly an eye-catching vehicle. Aside from the striking Yas Marina Blue paint job, the car has a high shoulder line, five-spoke center-lock wheels, and cannon-style twin-exit sports exhausts. Other small adjustments have been made to the overall design, with a revised rear end, front wings, and a fixed roof.
Under the hood is a naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V8 engine sourced from BMW that’s been tuned to produce a whopping 370 hp. Those lucky enough to score one of these impressive Morgan’s (only nine units are being produced and all are spoken for) also have the choice between a manual or automatic transmission.
The interior is minimal and features leather details, with the ability to upgrade to carbon fiber racing seats. Each car also comes with a plaque detailing the model number from one to nine.
“We are excited to release the first images of the Plus 8 GTR following the design sketches published earlier this year,” said Steve Morris, Chairman and CEO of Morgan Motor Company.
“The Plus 8 GTR represents an opportunity for Morgan to celebrate the V8 engine once again, something we did not expect to do since finishing the Plus 8 and Aero 8 models in 2018. Striking design, the finest craftsmanship, and an exhilarating sports car to drive, the Plus 8 GTR is the perfect swansong to the Morgan V8. We have been delighted to work alongside customers from around the world during the design and build process, and we look forward to sharing the final examples over the coming months.”
