Azealia Banks Sells World’s First Ever Audio Sex Tape
For better or worse, Azealia Banks is never too far away from the headlines. The outspoken rapper has been caught up in too many controversies to list (thankfully Pedestrian TV has done that for us), but her latest stunt may top them all. The 29-year-old has jumped on the recent non-fungible token (NFT) bandwagon by selling an audio-only recording of her having sex with fiancee Ryder Ripps.
For those out of the loop, NFTs are like a form of cryptocurrency tied to digital creations. They can’t be exchanged or replicated, making them unique and non-fungible. Only this week the first-ever tweet from Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey was put up for auction with a current bid of $2.5 million, while the Wu-Tang Clan are selling a limited-edition photobook with payment via NFTs.

While it sounds crazy people would pay stupid amounts of money for digital artwork, it seems to be the future, as evident by Banks flogging off a sex tape without visuals. The 24 minute and 22-second tape of Banks and Ripps getting down and dirty is called “I FUCKED RYDER RIPPS,” and is sure to be a collector’s item in the coming years.
The buyer, Rulton Fyder – a play on Fulton Ryder – is reportedly acclaimed artist Richard Prince. He paid 10 Ethereum, or $17,000 for the recording, gaining full rights of ownership, distribution, and display, as well as a signed vinyl LP.
While an audiotape of two people fucking doesn’t really float my boat, when it’s done by a famous rapper and her art world boyfriend, I guess I can see how this could be considered “art” by some and fetch a pretty penny.
