Celebrities With Lazy Eye You Didn’t Know

Are you familiar with the term strabismus? Or how about amblyopia? These are the official names of two conditions that affect the eyes, particularly the alignment of the eyes. People who suffer from these conditions are often crossed-eyed. This is what is commonly referred to as lazy eye. Around 5% of the population suffers from this condition, meaning it isn’t as rare as you might think. Even several celebrities suffer from this condition. That’s right, there are celebrities with lazy eye.  

Many celebrities that suffer from lazy eye only have a mild case, so it can often be hard to spot. You might not have even noticed they have wonky eyes, like Ryan Gosling and Heidi Klum. Then there are those where it is more apparent, such as acting great Forest Whitaker.

No matter whether you can or can’t tell, there are many celebs with a lazy eye. Here are 14 celebrities with lazy eye you might not have known suffer from strabismus or amblyopia. 

1. Ryan Gosling

Yes, it’s true. Hearthrob and all-around good guy Ryan Gosling has a wandering eye. We don’t mean with women, but his actual eye. His left eye droops slightly to the left, but you can hardly tell. I’m sure most women wouldn’t kick him out of the bedroom just because he has a slightly lazy eye. 

2. Paris Hilton

The Hilton heiress and reality TV star is famous for much more than her wonky eye. Similar to Gosling, Hilton has a slight droop in her left eye caused by amblyopia. While most people are born with this condition, Hilton is believed to have had a botched surgery on her eyes that caused it. 

3. Russell Crowe

The great Aussie (*cough* New Zealand *cough*) actor made his name in films such as Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, and The Insider. Along with being a big time movie star, Crowe also has a slightly lazy eye, but that hasn’t stopped him from becoming one of Hollywood’s greatest stars

4. Penelope Cruz

Even if she was obviously cross-eyed, Penelope Cruz would still be one of the most beautiful women on the planet. The Spanish actress only has a slight lazy eye, something her brother always teases her about. In an interview with People she revealed, “[My brother is] the only one who tells me all my defects. According to him, I have a lazy eye, a huge ear, and my feet are completely deformed because of dancing. I laugh because I know how much he loves me.”

5. Ed Sheeran

The UK singer-songwriter admitted in an interview with The Breakfast Club that he has a lazy eye. Unlike most, he wasn’t born with it. “I had a birthmark on my eye that was turning into glaucoma, which means I would have gone blind,” he explained. “So I got it lasered off, which gave me a stutter for a while and a lazy eye.”

6. Heidi Klum

Hedi Klum is another celebrity with a lazy eye that you have probably never noticed. The Victoria’s Secret model, Emmy winner, and entrepreneur was born with a little drop eye. Even with this condition, Klum still has beautiful eyes and is revered as one of the most attractive people in the world.

English actor Hugh Grant is another actor who suffers from strabismus. But this hasn’t stopped him from having an exceptional career. Grant has appeared in hits such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, and Love Actually. He is one of many celebrities who hasn’t let his condition impact his life. 

8. Katy Perry

The famous singer has admitted to having a wonky eye. Like most of us normal people, Katy Perry is self-conscious about the way she looks and takes her lazy eye into account. She carries around eye drops that she uses to make her eyes look normal. She explained all this is a short video clip. “I got a prescription for my wonk eye to make [my left eye] go bigger whenever I take pictures because I have a slight wonk,” she said. 

9. Andy Cohen

American radio and television talk show host Andy Cohen has suffered from a lazy eye since a young age. During the early stages of his career, he thought he might get the opportunity to reach the heights he has because of his condition. “When I was a 21-year-old intern at CBS, I was told I had crossed eyes and shouldn’t try to be on air,” Cohen said in a 2012 interview with The New York Times. “That’s when I decided I was going to be behind the scenes.” Turns out that was some bad advice, as Cohen is a focal television presenter for several shows.

10. Kristen Bell

Kristen Bell is another actor who has no shame about her eye problem. Taking to Instagram she posted a picture of herself during the filming of a movie. In the caption, she explained she was wearing a wig and also that she is one of many celebrities with lazy eye. “In addition, yes. I am slightly cross-eyed. Always have been, always will be.”

11. Forest Whitaker

Probably the most famous name on this list whose lazy eye is hard to miss, Forest Whitaker has had a stellar acting career despite his condition. He has starred in films such as Lee Daniel’s The Butler, The Last King of Scotland, and Phone Booth. His droopy eye is caused by ptosis in his left eye. This is a hereditary condition that Whitaker has considered correcting with surgery due to the vision problems it creates.

The British model and pop culture icon is another super famous celebrity who has a wonky eye. It’s certainly not that noticeable and it’s only after you find out she has one that you can see it. Moss hasn’t been hampered by the condition and remains a much-in-demand model.

You have probably never noticed Zac Efron’s lazy eye. His incredible good looks always seem to get in the way. Look closely though and you will see it. Not that is has impacted him, with Efron still regarded as one of the sexiest men on the planet.

While her career has been hit and miss over the last two decades, Demi Moore was a huge name in the 90s. Ghost, A Few Good Men, Indecent Proposal, Disclosure; the hits kept on coming. Then Striptease ended it all. What many people don’t know is that Moore was born cross-eyed. She has had two surgeries to correct this and you can hardly tell her eyes were ever wonky.

Fun fact: Moore also has two different colored eyes, with her right eye being brown and her left eye being green.
