‘Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’ Promises Plenty of Action
When it comes to not-needed sequels, it doesn’t get any more unwarranted than the Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. There was no need to revive these characters in another movie, but it seems the $180 million box office proves otherwise. The sequel to the 2017 hit The Hitman’s Bodyguard sees Salma Hayek join Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson in this action-comedy.
The movie follows professional bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds), who is tormented by the events of the previous film where he was forced to protect the assassin Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) from a variety of baddies. After taking his therapist’s advice and going on sabbatical, Bryce is drawn back into the world of underworld criminals when Kincaid’s wife, international con artist Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek), bullies him into helping her locate her kidnapped husband.
Check out the official plot synopsis below:
The world’s most lethal odd couple – bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) and hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) return. Still unlicensed and under scrutiny, Bryce is forced into action by Darius’s even more volatile wife, the infamous international con artist Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek). As Bryce is driven over the edge by his two most dangerous protectees, the trio get in over their heads in a global plot and soon find that they are all that stand between Europe and a vengeful and powerful madman (Antonio Banderas).
Similar to the first movie, this looks like a great mix of action and comedy, with Reynolds no longer killing due to being on sabbatical, making for some hilarious situations. Jackson appears as solid as ever while Hayek brings a new dimension to the film, adding a touch of femininity.
Along with the main trio and Banderas, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard also stars Morgan Freeman, Frank Grillo, Caroline Goodall, Rebecca Front, Gabriella Wright, Alice McMillan, Kristofer Kamiyasu, Tom Hopper, Blake Ritson, and Richard E. Grant.
Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is set for release on June 16.
