‘Rocky IV’ Director’s Cut Gets an Adrenaline Pumping Trailer
Rocky IV is not only one of the greatest sequels in movie history, but arguably one of the best films period. Released in 1985 during the twilight years of the Cold War, the fourth film in the Rocky franchise pits the Italian Stallion against Russian machine Ivan Drago.
While Stallone’s attempt at illustrating the power struggle between American and Russia and the Soviet’s eventual downfall at the hands of Rocky is heavy-handed, the film remains the highest-grossing movie in the series and features a training montage that is right up there with the best of them. The death of Apollo Creed also still hits hard.
36 years on and Stallone is releasing the director’s cut, entitled Rocky IV: Rocky vs. Drago – The Ultimate Director’s Cut. Why this is happening is anyone’s guess, but the re-release will feature 40 minutes of unseen footage. According to Variety, the official synopsis reads:
The fight scenes are more intense, the music is more powerful and the drama is heightened as world heavyweight champion Rocky Balboa (Stallone) must defend his title once again, this time against his most formidable opponent: Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren).
The trailer acts as a refresher for fans, with the entire plot of the film laid out during the three minutes. It also includes lots of new footage and appears to be like the original film on steroids.
The film will be screening for one night only in theaters on November 11. You can purchase tickets online via www.fathomevents.com. There will also be a Q&A with Stallone that will be broadcast to certain venues for those who want a bit more info regarding the new release. For those unable to get to the cinema, Rocky vs. Drago: The Ultimate Director’s Cut will be available to rent on-demand beginning Friday, November 12.
