Mountain Bike FAQs
There are many different types of bikes and a mountain bike is a fairly broad term. It can generally apply to any bike that has been specifically designed to be used off-road and over bumpy terrain. It has a range of features to cope with this terrain that you won’t see on a road bike.
A road bike, for example, is designed for speed over smooth surfaces. If you were to ride one over bumpy terrain, it would feel horrible. To cope with this harsher environment, mountain bikes are made to be more durable, have a more comfortable ride, and be able to cope with repeated shocks.
There are also significant design differences as mountain bikes having a more upright seating position, flat handlebars, and much thicker tires.
As with any bike, the first thing you’ll want to check is that the sizing is right. After that, you’ll want to check what type of suspension it has, the quality of the materials, brake design, and the type of gearing system. With budget bikes, the range of features is going to be fairly limited but you can be confident that all the bikes we’ve looked at here perform to a very high standard.
