Outdoor Retailer Winter Market – Part 3 – Denver, Colorado
Welcome to the final part of the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2018 coverage series. Below you’ll find even more highlights from the show alongside the best gear. While going through the Adidas booth, I had a chance to check out their new Terrex line. For the men’s collection, there were numerous boots and jackets on display, alongside some retro styles that were coming back into the fashion spotlight.
Big Agnes had one of their Third Degree sleeping pads on display, and to my surprise, it was as ultra-lightweight as it gets. With a unique design, this innovative pad weighed almost next to nothing. For the backpacker who wants to shave off every ounce from their load, this pad is as golden as it gets.
Black Yak’s booth featured more than just a neat color changing, geometric light display. Their lineup of shell and winter jackets left me impressed thanks to the modern, clean style. When it came to features, I was surprised to see so many great ones packed into their winter outerwear.
Wandering through Herschel Supply Co’s booth, I noticed a stunning camo pattern print used on everything from travel pillows to money belts, travel wallets, camp towels and beyond. As someone who enjoys the tactical look, I was drooling over these pieces of gear for a good bit of time.
Dakine’s outer shells for skiing/snowboarding/etc. left me super impressed, while their new Cordura duffle bag captured my attention. For a simple piece like a duffle bag, Dakine managed to make it super functional both in terms of storage and pocket compartment placement. The olive and grey also give it a sharp tactical, masculine look on the exterior.
On display at the Mystery Ranch booth was their new ski and snowboard packs, alongside their new travel bags, and Urban Assault 2-3 packs. Unlike the military/tactical line which can cost significantly more than the consumer bags, Mystery Ranch has incorporated the best of the consumer 2-3 day packs while still keeping the price point incredibly reasonable.
Of course, their ultra-lightweight In & Out packs and more rugged, full backpacking packs were great to see again. There’s just something about their packs that make them stand out from the rest. In reality, Mystery Ranch has quickly become one of my favorite pack brands out there.

This year, the Vibram booth featured a full out van dedicated to resoling shoes and boots on the spot. I must say that it was fascinating to watch the team work inside from start to finish. Also on display were their new tread patterns across a handful of different shoe brands.
New for Pendelton, was their lineup of men’s boots, shoes, and slippers. From leather to wool, unique fabric patterns and beyond, their footwear collection featured numerous fashion-forward designs. Best of all, the same Pendleton quality found in the blankets and other gear appears to have carried over.
The Reusch booth featured many new/unreleased and current year gloves for winter sports. After trying on the first pair I have to say, I was quite impressed by both the fit and quality.
Klean Kanteen new TKPRo 100% Stainless thermal insulated bottles featured a unique twist on cap and sleek exterior design. Sizes ranged from the smallest 16oz to 25oz and the largest, 32 oz. For hot and cold temperature retention numbers ranged from 20-38 hot and 75-100 cold. Beyond the effective insulation, the innovative screw on lid offered the ability to pour liquid from virtually any direction.
After putting a set of NANOSpikes by Kahtoola on my feet, I went ahead and jumped around on their giant ice block. The amount of grip was unbelievable! The tiny spikes dug into the ice to eliminate virtually any slippage or sliding around.
My favorite ski helmet company, Team Wendy had their new white and black Multicam versions of the M-216 ski helmet on display. Previously, I had covered the M-216 ski helmet in a feature, and I can’t say enough great things about it. They have perfected the ski helmet!
For the fashionable gentlemen, White’s Boots had a dream closet of leather boots and shoes on display. You could sense the spectacular construction quality with every single pair. At the Garmont booth, I found some sharp-looking modern hiking boots for men. The brown leather and versions were among some of my favorites in the photos below.
