The Ritz-Carlton Opens Its First Resort in the Maldives
The Ritz-Carlton’s first foray into the Maldives is one of the most anticipated resort openings of 2021. Accessible via a short 10 minute seaplane ride or 45 minute speedboat trip from Malé’s Velana International Airport, the resort is absolutely stunning.
Designed by the late Australian architect Kerry Hill, the premium retreat takes inspiration from the natural surroundings and formation of the island. The resort consists of 100 overwater or beachfront villas. The overwater villas form a circular formation around a massive spa complex, while the beachfront villas open up onto the white, sandy beaches and blue ocean water.
“Expanding into this destination is something we have had our eye on for a long time, as we continue to evolve our portfolio, [and this] is the perfect moment for us to debut in the Maldives, as luxury travelers continue to seek out opportunities for meaningful exploration and reconnection, as well as destinations that offer access to open spaces and natural beauty,” Donna McNamara, vice president and global brand leader for Ritz-Carlton, told Robb Report.
Each of the luxurious accommodation options includes sun decks, al fresco lounge areas, and infinity pools and all the modern amenities you would expect, such as 24 hour butler ready to do your bidding.
If spending your days knocking back cocktails by the pool or swimming in the ocean doesn’t appeal, there are plenty of activities available for the more adventurous. Book in a bike ride, cooking class, or learn how to play traditional drums. You can also take tennis lessons and enjoy the resort’s fitness center.
The ring-shaped spa facility that floats over the ocean includes nine rooms where you can receive all manner of treatments featuring organic products from UK-based Bamford.
There are seven restaurants serving everything from Japanese and Italian to Lebanese and Cantonese food, and a host of aquatic activities led by experts from Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment program.
Prices start at $1,500 a night for a one-bedroom villa, $4,400 a night for a two-bedroom villa, and $22,500 a night for the Ritz-Carlton Estate, which includes a private beach cove, outdoor kitchen, and private chef.
