How To Have Multiple Orgasms as a Man
Women have always been capable of having multiple orgasms (with a variety of different toe-curling, back-arching flavors), and it’s something that men have been jealous of for as long as we can remember. While it was previously deemed that men were just out-of-luck when it came to having multiple orgasms, it seems there’s more to know than we previously thought.
Whether or not men can have multiple orgasms has often seemed like a cruel game of what if, but early research on the subject has erected (pun intended) some interesting insights into whether men can have multiple orgasms in one session. And while more research does need to be done before any conclusive results are released, there is hope. Let’s take a look at what we know so far and how multiple male orgasms might be possible for you.
Is It Possible for Men To Have Multiple Orgasms?
Get ready, you’re going to like this one – because the answer is, yes! According to a 1989 descriptive study, researchers conducted interviews with 21 multi-orgasmic men, some of whom claimed to always have been capable of multiple orgasms. Other men in the study claimed to have experienced this sensation later in life, while the rest have actively learned to become multi-orgasmic. While the study wasn’t incredibly expansive on the hows, ifs, or whys, it did suggest that men are capable of having multiple orgasms.
Another similar 2016 study (because it’s always good to include men of the same century) also showed it was possible for men to have multiple orgasms, though it’s not common. The study discovered that less than 10% of men in their 20s were multi-orgasmic, and the numbers were even lower for those after the age of 30. It suggested that men can have “sporadic” multi-orgasms, typically several minutes apart, or “condensed” multi-orgasms with bursts of two to four orgasms within a few seconds or minutes.
But it isn’t all random as to who does and doesn’t have multiple orgasms. Multiple factors such as practicing having orgasms free of ejaculation, having numerous sexual partners, taking psychostimulant drugs, and using sex toys to increase stimulation have all been shown to boost one’s chances of having multiple orgasms (but more on that later).
The Secret to Multiple Orgasms as a Man
The 2016 study also proposed that the secret to having multiple orgasms as a man comes from not ejaculating. Multiple, non-ejaculatory orgasms, according to the study, are incredibly similar to what goes on physiologically in a single orgasm, such as elevated heart rate and muscle contractions. The only exception is the release of semen from the penis.
What Do Non-Ejaculatory Orgasms Feel Like?
Non-ejaculatory orgasms – sometimes referred to as dry orgasms – are still intense and feel good (sometimes just as good as normal orgasms). I mean, they are orgasms, after all. Which, by our definition, are bound to feel good.
Of course, they likely won’t always feel like the orgasms you’re used to. For most men, they’ll be less intense – which is probably a good thing if you’re having multiple orgasms in one session.

How To Have Multiple Orgasms as a Man
While we tend to associate ejaculatory orgasms as being the only type of penile orgasm, research has shown that that’s just not the case. It is possible to have multiple orgasms as a man, as long as those orgasms skip out on ejaculation. Because ejaculation is the orgasm finale for men, before your neurotransmitters send you into the refractory rest and recovery period, learning to have non-ejaculatory orgasms is the only real way you can experience the feel-good rush of multiple orgasms. The refractory period, essentially, is the time between climax and your next erection.
So, here’s how to do it…
Practice Makes Perfect
According to scientific research and first-hand accounts, the men who taught themselves how to have multiple orgasms did so through consistent practice. So, if this is something you want to achieve, it’s time to lean into self-pleasure and ejaculatory control during masturbation. And no, this isn’t too good to be true, but it will take consistent practice and not giving up when the going gets too hard.
Strengthen Your Pelvic Floor Muscles
Pelvic floor muscles are something we all have – regardless of gender – and when they’re strengthened and used correctly, men can enhance the intensity of their orgasm (or orgasms) and learn to better control their ejaculatory response.
Learning to strengthen your pelvic floor means you want to target your pubococcygeus muscle or PC muscle. This hammock-shaped muscle stretches from the pubic bone down to the tailbone, supporting the pelvic organs and helping control ejaculation. Learning to work this muscle through pelvic floor exercises means that you can better control your ejaculation and strengthen your chances of skipping the refractory period altogether and enjoying the bliss of multiple orgasms. And since these muscles weaken with age, there’s really no better time to start training your PC than now.
To strengthen your pelvic floor, practice contracting your PC muscle. To visualize the movement of this muscle: imagine yourself going to pee, then stopping the flow, holding for five seconds, and relaxing. Yeah, it’s really that simple. Plus, you can practice these exercises anywhere (no one can tell you’re doing it) for as little or as often as you’d like. Ideally, you should be practicing this exercise for at least 10 to 20 reps three to four times a day.
Connect Your Mind and Body
We know that we’ve been talking a lot about the body’s role in achieving multiple orgasms, but your mind also has a vital part to play. When you expand your awareness of the mind’s powers to control energy and sexual pleasure, you can begin to build and strengthen the connections between neurological pathways. This essentially means that you can use your mind to connect with a body part, like your genitals, so thinking about pleasuring this body part during sex or masturbation can bring more energy and sensation to that physical place on your body. The result? Better, more intense orgasms – multiple if you’re lucky.
Try Edging
Edging is an orgasm control technique in which you get right up to the point of orgasm, then stop the stimulation and wait until the buildup begins to fade. You (or a partner) can then bring yourself back to the brink of orgasm and do it all over again or give in and let your orgasm surge.
Edging is most often practiced during masturbation (a lot of masturbation), in which you continually bring yourself to the edge until you’ve reached the point of no return, and ejaculation becomes inevitable. This ejaculation suppression technique has been documented by multi-orgasmic men who have taught themselves how to have multiple orgasms. Knowing when you’ve met your point of no return (the final ejaculatory orgasm) is how men have learned to experience several orgasms during the buildup.
Focus on Your Breathing
Breathing is an insanely powerful resource that we can always tap into. And when it comes to achieving multiple orgasms as a man, learning how to harness the power of your breath is essential.
For centuries, Taoists and lovers of Tantric sex have been using the power of breathing to practice self-control and expand your awareness of the sensations flooding your brain and body. After some practice, the goal is that you have learned (through breathing) to achieve an erotic, aroused state of consciousness even when your body is not in that state of feeling.
The best type of breathwork for connecting to your sexual center is deep belly breathing. Relaxing your body, you’ll take deep breaths into the center of your stomach. At the same time, you’ll visualize in your mind’s eye your body filling up with sexual energy. You can do this exercise solo and experiment with masturbation, or let your partner pleasure you as you relax and focus on your breath.
Deep breathing (as opposed to shallow chest breathing) can also be used to control your ejaculation, like when you’re edging, since your breath naturally turns shorter and shallower when you get close to ejaculating. But by slowing down and taking larger breaths, you’ll better control when you ejaculate.
If you don’t regularly practice deep breathing, start outside of the bedroom. You can just sit on a chair or your couch when you have a few free moments to relax. Begin by placing your hands on your stomach and inhaling deeply through your nose. You should feel your stomach expand with your hands and then relax as you exhale gently through the mouth. Practice holding each breath at the top for at least three seconds. Soon you’ll become more and more comfortable with this style of breathwork in and out of the bedroom.
Incorporate Some P-Spot Time
The prostate gland, or P-spot, is a small walnut-sized gland located beneath the bladder. When stimulated, the P-spot can induce a unique, even intense orgasm sensation without the need for ejaculation. Your P-Spot can be stimulated indirectly or directly using a toy or your (or a partner’s) fingers on its own or teamed up with penile stimulation to achieve multiple, intense orgasms. Plus, the beauty of prostate stimulation is that even after achieving a P-spot orgasm, your penis will stay hard and excited for more sexual stimulation.
Forget About Climaxing (Sort Of)
For many of us, the most obvious goal of sex is to get off. But what happens when we focus less on achieving that one grand finale ejaculation is that we can begin to see sex as an exploratory experience, one with surprises and chances for multiple orgasms around every corner. Forgetting (temporarily) about your desire to ejaculate, means you can tune into the different sensations that arise during sex.
