1991 Disney classic Beauty and the Beast was the first animated feature to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Beauty and the Beast has also become a tattoo art sensation, with masses of people inking scenes, stars, quotes, and characters from the film onto their skin in a variety of styles and patterns.
A churlish Prince is cursed by an old woman for belittling her ugly appearance. He’s magically transformed into a wild creature of fierce countenance and short temper, while his support staff are turned into household objects resembling their names.
Beast can only break the old lady’s enchantment if someone is able to love him for who he is, a difficult proposition given he’s temperamental, bitter, and built like a linebacker with massive fangs and the head of an unfinished sculpture.
Enter Belle, a classical Disney Princess in every sense of the word. She’s a beautiful, optimistic girl from the village looking for her missing father who in turn becomes imprisoned by Beast in exchange for her old man’s release.
Over time, in true Disney style, Stockholm Syndrome sets in and…wait, sorry, wrong audience. Over time, in true Disney style, Belle thaws towards her captor and helps Beast find his true self. Surprisingly, this event results in a tale of love, intrinsic development, breaking enchantment, and happily ever after for everyone.
Beauty and the Beast is the ultimate in transformation movies and a tale as old as time…
As far as tattoo art goes, there’s plenty for ink lovers to peruse and enjoy. Beauty and the Beast provides tremendous opportunities for quality designs in a variety of styles, sizes, colors, and themes.

Beauty and the Beast Color Tattoos
This is a quality Beast key ring tattoo. It’s small and simple but executed strongly – the chain and loop are given the same importance as grumpy looking Beast is. The artist smartly chooses to outline the tattoo with thickly applied white ink – it finishes off the image by contrasting the thinner, sharper black ink of Beast’s facial outlines.
Inside this pearly love heart you’ll find a still from the Beauty and the Beast depicting gentle interaction between Belle and the massive monster. It details the protagonists and is delivered in a skillful arrangement of crisp, flowing color. The pearls lining the love heart border standout by being ‘buffed’ to a beautiful, milky shine.
These twin foot tattoos are inked with fantastic detail, a difficult task given the awkward placement on the top of each foot. Foot tattoos can often be difficult to get right due to their tendency to drop color or fade. Make sure you consult your artist about possible foot touch up requirements prior to sitting for the first tattoo session.
Cogsworth is the majordomo of Beast’s household turned into a pendulum clock, who also serves as the film’s narrator. This is a classy color replication of the portly official, with spot on effects and a great sense of his personality imbued into the image. Not sure how is melds with the black and gray tattoos adjacent, but the art work is clear, precise, and well etched.
This is bad ass. The tattooist has produced an epic print reproduction of Belle wearing Beast’s head as a hat. Not sure that this was ever in the film! It’s a brilliant tattoo emphasizing crisp color output and the use of clean, fine black outline. Beast’s fur cascading down and past Belle’s doe eyes creates a fantastic, tawny link between colors on the skin.
This subject is putting together a handy group of animated favorites from film and video games (the blonde bloke with thumb up at the bottom is Vault Boy from the post apocalyptic classic Fallout). Here, Beast and Belle are shown as lovers, comfortably ensconced within a vivid purple black love heart. The star effects within the bruised sky are created with precision to look glittering and realistic.
Friendly Beast in this cartoon portrait looks like actor John Goodman, although I can’t recall ever seeing Walter Sobchek or Eli Gemstone rocking fangs. The artist’s clever use of crisp black line for both characters negates the need for a border pattern or shape , allowing the piece nice glow as an inner forearm tattoo.
Love the pink biscuit hundreds and thousands dot background effect within the heart shaped mirror. The artist has made the difficult technique seem bright, breezy and easy. The other technical elements here are also strong; clean, fresh color, precise black outlines, perfectly executed bordering heart filigree, and an interesting stained glass look for the bell jar.
This is an elegant color tattoo depicting Belle and Beast – between them is the rose in a bell jar tracking the enchantment placed on Beast. This is more classic sketch style art than others, it features more single needle etching and the sense of fine line and color throughout.
The white dotwork technique employed through Beast in this tattoo is meant to convey a snow effect. Unfortunately, it’s a little distracting – the white ink snow flakes aren’t quite large and realistic enough to nail down the desired look. The rest of this cartoon view of Beast is classy – the color patterns are strong, well etched and crisp. Beast’s eyes give him an intensity practically leaping off the skin.
Love the abstract quality of this Beauty and the Beast rose tattoo with bright, two tone blue castle in the background. The flower is deftly colored, the stem and leaves in particular look strong and clean in black lined green ink. The hint of white etchings tracing through the liquid pink purple sky is a clever touch, while the solid castle is a Disney staple.
Beast in this tattoo looks forlorn – like he was pinged by an overweight security guard for shoplifting. It’s a killer crossover between classic portraiture and the cartoon nature at the heart of Beauty and the Beast. The use of fuzzy black/gray shadow fill around the upper portion of Beast’s head does allows the main image to pop.
This tattooed version of Belle seems a lot saucier than the one from the animated film. This piece looks like one of those Disney Princess costumes your lady-friend wears to get your imagination racing, heart pumping, and make you read books instead of watching football. It’s a good tattoo but lacks the polish in color and detail other tattoos on this list display.
Love the juxtaposition of slight, elegant, Belle against hulking and brutish Beast. This color sketch tattoo incorporates creative negative space alt color effects inside the image. Use of fine black line needle work develops an interesting counterpoint to the rest of the body art’s display.
Ooooh, this ink is pretty! The bell jar and rose employ black light ink to make them glow in the dark. The tattoo itself would be impressive by itself – it’s etched cleanly with great fine line work and a nice cursive quote travelling the base of the jar, but the fluorescent aspect makes it even cooler and sends the art from demure and elegant into funky disco mode.
Beauty and the Beast Mirror Tattoos
This is a fantastic upper arm tattoo melding the main characters of Beauty and the Beast into a brightly etched, high quality piece of body art. Love that the focus is taken off Belle and Beast, they appear only as black shadows in an image dominated by pink. The mirror itself is brilliant at using strong, silver scroll work and internal dots to make a realistic center point for the other stars to gather around.
A beautiful technical tattoo. Love how the glass section looks polished – it gives you the urge to look for your reflection. The gilded mirror is an elegant piece, and works well with rose, pearls and brooch to give it a classical vibe.
This thigh tattoo is one of the more impressive pieces in the Beauty and the Beast collection. It’s a beautifully put together take on stained glass showing Belle and the now human beast together after breaking the enchantment. It looks pieced together by individual segments of color, then locked in with black ink. The supporting mirror and handle are understated but perfectly etched to maintain focus on the internal image.
A quality ‘two-faced’ mirror applying realism and classical principles to create a fantastically unique artwork. Beast in particular is eye catching – the artist has captured his fur with spot on technical skill – while the single glowing eye contrasts beautifully with the surrounding gray and negative space. Also love the degree of detail in the curves and swirl of Belle’s hair. The roses toward ink’s bottom are quite pretty, however long term the tattoo may have been better served having them colored in full for consistent brightness and clarity.
Cracking this mirror is tremendous. The small detail of defects and the shiny mirror handle give this predominantly black and gray piece a professional slickness. Also like the classy use of white ink highlights to add further polish. The wide gauge rose at the top looks spectacular in opposition to the flat black of Belle and Beast.
Interesting decision to go without facial features for Belle and Beast in an otherwise top quality piece of tattooing. While it looks a bit strange it is effective. The detail threading through the mirror is absolutely brilliant – deft black line work for shadow and texture complemented by negative space instead of traditional shading. The choice to feature no black line in the roses also works as this allows the different red shades a chance to contrast against the mirror’s darkness.
While not as flashy as some of the other mirror ink, this upper thigh tattoo is technically flawless and will stand up over a long period. It has an almost American traditional sense of clarity and clean line throughout. The small details – shining jewels, filigreed handle, crisp black line, and complementary colors – help make it a truly outstanding piece of body art.
The artist’s eye for clean detail and flowing line make this mirror tattoo bad ass. The piece has an almost minimalist point of view, relying on line work, flow, and single needle etching to craft beauty instead of vivid colors and packed shadow. The use of red roses help drive the crispness of the mirror’s imagery in black and contrasting alabaster skin. It’s a lovely, elegantly delivered concept tattoo.
This mirror goes the opposite way to get the same result – the tattoo is built with strength and texture rather than contrasts in fine line and flow. Love the scratching within the mirror, while the mirror’s frame is bold, busy, and is sketched with passion and power.
Beauty and the Beast Quote Tattoos
This large thigh tattoo is a grand piece in tribute to Beauty and the Beast. The cursive in this tattoo flows nicely and is well supported by the lighter shade/dot work filler running through it. The mirror too is well drawn, showing off the artist’s ability to create quality work on a large scale that replicates the film’s animation.
This is a cool play on an American traditional ‘sailor’s girl’ tattoo. Love the old school cursive quote. Belle’s I heart Beast tattoo is a snappy piece of humor. The choice to do the yellow dress fill in shade/negative space instead of a flat color may be problematic down the track.
An excellent minimalist wrist tattoo pairing black line style with nicely flowing cursive. It’s simple ink, but etched clearly and concisely. The option is there for the subject to color fill the rose and bell jar in the future.
Love the subtlety and elegance of this rose inside a bell jar. Turning the stem into the delicate cursive of freedom is an excellent concept. The shading of the bell jar is beautifully nuanced in support of the classical rose, however as the fine needled tattoo (and skin) ages, there may be need to re-apply ink or change up the shading to give the image more strength and longevity.
A beautiful inner forearm tattoo again using rose stem as pathway for cursive script. It’s captured with clarity and skill. Sometimes choosing not to outline a flower with black outline can be considered a mistake, but this tattoo does an excellent job creating a strongly etched rose in multi hued shades of red.
