Icelandic Supernatural Horror ‘Lamb’ Picked Up by A24
A24 is known for finding some of the most exciting and artistic films including The Lighthouse, Midsommar, Uncut Gems, and Minari, and it looks like they’ve done it again with Valdimar Jóhannsson’s Lamb.
The first-time filmmaker’s directorial feature debut looks to be an intense rural thriller that will keep audiences on the edge of their seat throughout as we follow a child-less couple on their shepherding journey. It seems like it’s going to be super weird, so we’ll see how it turns out. You can watch the international trailer and read the official synopsis to the film below:
A childless couple in rural Iceland make an alarming discovery one day in their sheep barn. They soon face the consequences of defying the will of nature, in this dark and atmospheric folktale, the striking debut feature from director Valdimar Jóhannsson.
The movie stars Noomi Rapace of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo fame, with Hilmir Snaer Gudnason (White Night Wedding) and Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (Fortitude) alongside her. Jane Naszewski of New Europe Film Sales has said that Lamb is “original, imaginative, and has cult potential that [A24] can help us achieve.”
Lamb has been selected as part of the “Un Certain Regard” category at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival where it is set to premiere. Stay tuned for a theatrical or streaming release date.
