14 of the Rudest Celebrities of All Time

There’s an old saying that goes “it costs nothing to be kind.” This is something the rudest celebrities with their millions of dollars could learn. It’s probably unsurprising that many of the rich and famous don’t really worry about acting kindly to strangers. What have they got to gain by being nice to a waiter or busboy? It’s not going to impact their bank balance that’s for sure. 

Now that’s not to say all celebrities are rude and have no care for their fellow humans, but the internet is littered with stories about celebrities behaving badly. The onset of social media and camera phones means it is much easier to call out people for their bad behavior.

Whether celebrities care what others think is a whole other thing, but we have no doubt there are many who wish they weren’t being named and shamed online. We’ve highlighted some of the worst offenders and the stories that prove why they are so rude. Hopefully, your favorite celebrity doesn’t make an appearance, and if they do, well, maybe it’s time to find a new hero. 

1. Ellen DeGeneres

Is anybody really surprised? Ellen DeGeneres managed to cultivate an image of respect and love during her years as host of her own talk show, but the truth all came out in recent years as more and more people exposed her for being a bully.

There are hundreds of articles on the internet regarding DeGenerres’ antics, from her strange interaction with Dakota Johnson over not being invited to her 30th birthday party to the toxic workplace she created through her treatment of staff members. 

Despite all the bad publicity, DeGeneres doesn’t seem too phased. Sure, she put out a public apology but hasn’t really done anything that shows she is trying to change. Guess it doesn’t really matter when you go home to your mansion and millions of dollars.

2. Lisa Kudrow

Friends star Lisa Kudrow is not as friendly as her character on the show according to reality star Spencer Pratt, who to be fair, doesn’t seem like the nicest guy either. Early in 2022, Pratt put Kudrow on blast when asked by a fan on TkTok about the rudest celebrity he had encountered.

Apparently, Pratt and his wife Heidi Montag had a run-in with Kudrow at a party way back in 2009. The couple was at a party held by NBC executives when Kurdrow reportedly approached Montag and told her she needed to get away from Pratt as fast as possible as he has serial killer eyes and would likely murder her. Crazy stuff. 

3. Mike Myers

Funnyman Mike Myers is another unexpected rude celebrity. The Canadian has brought lots of joy and laughs to millions of people around the world with his Wayne’s World, Austin Powers, and Shrek franchises, but it seems when he’s not on camera Myers is a bit of a grump.

He’s known for his diva behavior, with his The Cat in the Hat co-star Amy Hill telling The A.V. Club that working with him was “miserable.” According to Hill, he was always late to set and also had someone feeding him chocolates when he wanted them. Half his luck. 

4. Ariana Grande

Singer Ariana Grande is one of those celebrities that has more bad stories about them on the internet than good. She is a diva of the highest order and there are multiple reports about the way she rudely treats people and doesn’t care for other people’s feelings.

Page Six published an article claiming Grande’s life coach quit because she was difficult and immature, while in 2014 she walked out of a photo shoot in Sydney, Australia after her list of demands, including that she not be shot in natural light, weren’t met. 

Even beauty influencer James Charles called Grande the rudest celebrity he had ever met, although he has walked back those comments in recent years. Still, there’s enough evidence to prove Grande isn’t the most polite celebrity out there. 

5. Christian Bale

This one is a little contentious because it stems from an on-set incident. While shooting Terminator Salvation, Bale got angry when the director of photography Shane Hurlbut walked on set while he was in the middle of filming. Bale thought that was rude and went on a tirade against the DOP, which just so happened to be recorded. Afterward, Bale apologized and they returned to filming without any other issues.

While Bale’s behavior is inexcusable, since that incident there has been no record of him losing his cool on set or offending the cast and crew of other production he has been a part of. There have also never been any comments from other actors or the public about Bale being rude, so it seems more likely to have been a heat-of-the-moment thing that shows just how passionate Bale is about his craft. 

6. Kylie Jenner

Someone from the Kardashian family is rude? Hell must have frozen over. All members of the clan (from Kim Kardashian to Kendall Jenner) have been in the news for negative reasons over the years, but it’s Kylie Jenner that’s getting the most heat lately. The world’s youngest billionaire and mother of two has come under fire after a fan asked her to say the famous “Rise and Shine” line while at the launch of her cosmetics line at Ulta.

As The U.S. Sun reports Jenner went from friendly to standoffish as she replied, “I usually get paid for that.” But she relented and said the line for the superfan. Later on in the night she was also spotted taking a photo with another fan and appearing disinterested and not even acknowledging her. 

7. Rachel Ray

According to fellow foodies, Rachel Ray is a rude celebrity who needs to be checked. The world-famous chef and TV personality has been verbally attacked by Martha Stewart, Emeril Lagasse, and even the late, great Anthony Bourdain, with none of them having complementary things to say about Ray. 

But like so many famous people, it hasn’t really made a dent in her bank balance. Ray continues to be a huge star on the Food Network with millions of fans across the world still tuning in to her shows. 

8. Jennifer Lawrence 

At least she can admit when she’s at fault. Jennifer Lawrence is very open about the fact that she can be rude when approached by fans. In a Variety interview, she talked about how fame and public attention make her uncomfortable. “I become incredibly rude. I turn into a huge [expletive]. That’s my only way of defending myself,” she said.

Fair play really. It can’t be easy when strangers are staring and pointing and asking for photos whenever you appear in public. At least people know what to expect and shouldn’t be too upset if Lawrence tells them to fuck off. 

9. Candace Cameron Bure

You might remember her as D.J. Tanner on Full House where she played a lovable teen or for her time co-hosting The View. What you might not know is that Candace Cameron Bure is super rude. While there have been plenty of rumors, singer, dancer, and YouTuber JoJo Siwa confirmed all this when answering questions on TikTok.

When ask who the rudest celebrity she had met was, she posted an image of Bure with the caption, “Pool day = exposed hahahha.” No more details were given and there has been no comment from Brue so who knows what happened. 

10. James Cordon

Nobody really likes James Cordon, and the recent revelations that he’s a rude prick are only cementing people’s view about the late-night talk show host. After Balthazar owner, Keith McNally accused him of being his “most abusive customer,” plenty of other people came out and shared stories of Cordon being a dick. 

After initially refuting the claims, Cordon eventually agreed that he had been rude and apologized for his actions. While all is well and good, that hasn’t stopped people from hanging shit on Cordon, with neither English nor American audiences wanting to claim him as their own. 

11. Lea Michele

The former Glee star Lea Michele is another celebrity who has come under fire for being rude. For years there have been rumors about her bad behavior on set, but it’s only recently that her castmates have spoken out about her mean, rude, and abusive behavior. Michele seems like a bully who throws a fit when she doesn’t get her own way and takes joy in the misfortune of others. 

Like so many celebrities who get called out, Michele has apologized for her actions but it seems to be more for the cameras than anything. 

12. Justin Bieber

JoJo Siwa has a lot of bad experiences with celebrities. As well as not being a fan of Candace Cameron Blue, she also doesn’t think much of Justin Bieber. Siwa took to TikTok to discuss a time when she posted on Twitter about her new custom car and the Biebs told her to “burn it.”

While not really offensive, it’s still not a nice thing to say. It’s also not surprising as Bieber has a long history of being a dick, be it pissing in buckets, spitting on fans, or being arrested for driving under the influence. But now that he’s married to Hailey Bieber and seemingly matured, here’s hoping things like this won’t happen as often. 

13. John Mayer

Another from the “oh, what a surprise” column, John Mayer has always seemed like he’d be a wanker. Whether breaking Taylor Swift’s heart or talking about his dick being a white supremacist, Mayer has a long list of controversies attached to his name. So when Reddit user u/NOT_a_famous_person_ recalled their horrible meeting with Mayer, nobody questioned it. Read below for more evidence about Mayer’s dickish behavior. 

“EASILY John Mayer – I met him at an awards show over 10 years ago, and he would not stop quoting a sexist joke from South Park. Everybody around him just laughed awkwardly – every word out of his mouth was a mean and sarcastic joke I was supposed to find funny, but ultimately didn’t. I distinctly remember he made another joke that was really off-putting, and I was like, ‘Dude…’ and he responded with, ‘Oh, come on – don’t be a butthead.’ He called me a butthead because I didn’t laugh at his cruel joke.”

14. Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow is a little perplexed as to why so many dislike her. Star Magazine once named her the most hated celebrity in the world, something she told Vogue she wasn’t quite sure about. Well, it could be for the strange and often controversial comments she regularly makes (claiming that being an actor is harder than working a “normal job” and how she would rather smoke crack than eat tuna) or the fact that she doesn’t tip as mattymo56 told Buzzfeed. 

“I worked with Gwyneth Paltrow’s children for eight weeks at a camp, and we got paid $5 an hour. Parents usually tip $100 or more at the end, but she didn’t tip at all.” Poor form Gwyneth.
